It’s a date
you won’t find in any history books.
-
And if you ask any
longtime downtown merchant, they’ll tell you the Downtown Street Fair
and Sidewalk Sale has been going on longer than anyone remembers. But
that doesn’t mean that the street fair is the same year after year, as
visitors will find out this weekend. The event has grown from various
Sherman Avenue businesses simply setting up their wares on the street
corners on a warm summer weekend to the bustling event it has become.
-
Now, more than 170
crafters, food vendors, and of course, downtown merchants will set up
shop along Sherman for three days. Add to this mix live music, a kids
area, and the expected thousands of visitors and you have one of the
area’s signature summer events.

The Coeur d’Alene
Downtown Association has been heading this annual traditional fair for
the past 19 years, and each year invites artists and businesses from
around the region, along with lining up all sorts of exciting
entertainment, which takes place daily on just about every corner.
The fair takes place Friday through Sunday the first weekend in August. Some of the
vendors have come every year, some are new to the event.
-
Gay Glasson from the
downtown association said this event includes the largest number of
downtown merchants, which means that visitors will know that many of
the great products they see at the fair can likely be purchased here
on a future visit. Glasson said this year will also see the of the
popular kid’s area, on the south side of Fifth Street. This will
include jump and bouncing equipment from The Fun Guy and a track where
kids of all ages can race slot cars.
